President Yang attended the 18th UIS Governing Board Meeting

The UNESCO Institute of Statistics (UIS) Governing Board Eighteenth Ordinary Session was held in Montreal, Canada from December 7 to December 8. President Yang Zongkai was invited to attend as the only board member from China.
The meeting was chaired by Matthew Sanders, the Chairman of the UIS Governing Board; the UIS Director Silvia Montoya gave the report on activities of the Institute in 2016. The meeting summarized the past work and reviewed the working plan and the budget for 2017. Besides, board members had deliberations on topics covering the data collection, methodology, human resource management and sustainable development, and approved the agenda and draft resolutions.
In the meeting, President Yang mentioned that it was necessary to nurture talents in the ICT area and facilitated exchanges on ICT development,on which other board members also agreed. During the meeting, President Yang also spoke with the UIS staff members and interns supported by the China Scholarship Council on the UIS organizational structure and talent training.
UIS is the statistical office of UNESCO and is the primary UN depository for cross-nationally comparable statistics on education, science and technology, culture, and communication covering more than 200 countries and territories. The Governing Board of UIS is comprised of 12 members from different countries.
