The UN Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has inscribed China's "The Twenty-Four Solar Terms" on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
The 24 Solar Terms are special terms created by ancient Chinese people to reflect the change of weather, climate and natural phenomenon, which are crucial to agricultural events and farming activities. The 24 Solar Terms are divided based on the movement of the Sun. In the ancient times, farming was largely dependent on the change of weather. In order to prepare the land and cultivate well, they arranged their activities based on the 24 Solar Terms so that they would have a big and important harvest of food in the autumn.
The ancient Chinese people clearly understood the rule of nature. They respected nature and valued what nature has endowed. They strived for harmony and minimized the potential harm caused by dreadful human interference.
